I've been reining in my streak of sarcasm and appreciation of irony awaiting a clearer indication of all the land mines strewn in my path. Watched Sarah speak last night, and quickly concluded that the whole point of nominating Sarah Palin is that she'll get in everybody's face and be a lightning rod to deflect attention from McCain. Yeah, she's a "spitfire", but I don't see anything other distinguishing qualities. By that criteria, Don Rickles is equally qualified to be VP, too.
It was kafkaesque to listen to floor interviews with the delegates. Every one of them parroted exactly the same lines, reading from the same talking points memo distributed to all the delegates (seriously; read excerpts from it in the paper). Every one is excited and "energized", and convinced that McCain has "changed the groundrules" and a big pile of other such blather. And every one of the lemmings is outraged, outraged I tell you! at the mainstream-yet-simultaneously-Liberal media's brutal treatment of poor little Sarah.
Then there were the costumes. I don't remember such extreme silliness at the DemoCon. How about those people dressed as Uncle Sam with the toadstool-shaped Dr. Seuss hats the size of barcaloungers, suit and hat printed with the American flag? These are the same people who favor an amendment to the Constitution banning flag burning? Can you say "desecration"? "Uh, dude, you're sitting on the flag!"
But I guess I should be grateful. If it weren't for the comic relief it would've looked like a Nuremburg rally.
