1000 protons

Suppose the device is able to totally annihilate 1000 protons, how much energy would be released?

My guess is about 8.47800 * 10^17 ergs. </blockqoute>

I get a slightly smaller answer: about 1.5 ergs.

100,000,000,000,000,000 times less than yours.

Mass of 1000 protons = 1.672 * 10^-24 kg

c = 3 * 10^8 m/s

E = m * c^2 = 1.5^-7 joules = 1.5 ergs

(1 erg = 10^-7 joules)
