Just a random thought...
Ya'll remember The Stepford Wives, don't you? (IMDb tells me the original came out in 1975.) In its heart, a feminist tale in that it depicts an anti-feminist backlash combined with murder and animatronics. (Probably not coincidence that it followed WestWorld two years earlier... it took longer to produce copycat films in the '70s).
Most of this crowd has to have been fans of Northern Exposure.
Combine the two and you get Sarah Palin... especially if you know how different real rural Alaska is from Cicely (I have a friend from North Pole).
Shooting moose from a helicopter... yeah, right. Just the image we need to project after eight years of moronic chimp.
I heard some clips of her at a rally, this morning on the way to work. She doesn't just sound rehearsed, she sounds like she's autonomously responding to keywords. I actually laughed out loud in the car, "Can she pass the Turing Test?"
The other problem is the way she sounds. All I could think of while listening was Sue Scott of Prairie Home Companion doing her caricature upper-Midwest whine.
Maybe I just need more ketchup.
Northern Exposure meets The Stepford Wives
