How could anyone look around at the financial situation of the US, realize it's going to get much uglier before it gets better, and vote for two people who advocate more of the same.

Same foreign policy, only more aggressive. Much more aggressive, possibly including a land war in Europe with Russia, the Middle East with Iran. In addition to the two going on. Increased military spending.

Same domestic policies which include in cutting back services for the poor and disadvantaged as not affordable. Same environmental policies, which consist of benign neglect of any policy.

Same tax policy, only more cuts for the super-wealthy in order to continue to stimulate business and create jobs. Should be kicking in any time now.

And call it "change". And how do they reconcile a guy who's been around for 36 years and flopped on position after position to adopt policies which would do any Southern Baptist minister proud as a "change agent". Along with Barbie waiting to step in. (I think Paris Hilton would have been a better choice.) Hell, Alaska has fewer people than the county in which I reside. (But I can't see Russia from here.)

How can they want more of that for this poor country? I don't think they hate it, but they do act like it.

I really don't understand.
