When in Rome...
Religion will easily adapt to the discovery of aliens, even if the aliens have a different other-worldly religion, or no religion at all. They will find a way to fit that into the paradigm. But how will the Vatican react if ETs are Protestant? How will the Muslims react if they are Jewish?
And how will the physicists react if ETs are Pentecostals? The possibilities for SF writers here are limitless.
