Unreal, schedule dependent on external electric grid.

How much did this thing cost? If this was a business, what would be the per hour cost of downtime? It's run for a few hours and it already needs overall maintenance? I don't have a problem with the obvious need to investigate and repair, but the artificial schedule on such an expensive undertaking is a bit shocking.

If this was any real business, schedules would be changed, there would be no seasonal dependence on the electric grid, and the investors would get a bit more bang for their buck. As excited as I am about the potential discoveries of this apparatus, I have to say it's business as usual from large state sponsored science enterprises--huge cost overruns, drastic schedule delays, tremendously inefficient use of resources. I don't know, maybe this is just inescapable for big science.
