Bacardi is good stuff, I prefer the dark, but the clear is good too. Best of all is the Añejo, but stay away from those frou-frou fern bar fruit coolers. Avoid as well the 151, the other 49 is fusel oil. DonQ is a very good bargain substitute and perfectly acceptable among discriminating company.
Best rum in the world is Barrilito (Little Barrel) from Puerto Rico. And Pu-Leeze, no Diet Coke, OK. I like mine just a shade light (<1 oz), with a slice of lime. Rum on the rocks is a treat, too.
