Rocket Man crosses the Channel
DOVER: The Swiss birdman last night successfully jetted across the English Channel.
Yves Rossy became the first person to fly from Calais to Dover using only a jet-powered carbon-fibre wing.
The 49-year-old Swiss daredevil crossed the English Channel strapped to a homemade jet-propelled wing, parachuting into a field near the White Cliffs of Dover after a 10-minute solo flight.
He had called off an attempt on Thursday because of cloud cover.
But last night Rossy leapt from a plane at more than 2500m, fired up his jets and made the 35km trip from Calais in France.
