I warned Arrell that I would do so if he continued his personal attacks on TB. Things looked calm when I left the computer last night, but this morning I came here and saw a train wreck.

CurrentEvents is where we fight about politics, and it's understood that politics is a contact sport. But I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to understand that while attacking politicians and other public figures is a necessary part of political discussion, personal attacks on other members of our community are out of line here.

Flame is intended to be used to resolve personal fights and grudges. You can call out somebody there, but there's no obligation for the target to respond. Tom can hit back, or not, on Flame as he chooses. Among the threads I moved was TB's rather reasonable and restrained response to all of the attacks, but his first paragraph is worth repeating here on CE:

There are damn few of us who have a flawless record of opinions over five years of posting here. You know very well that if you put that search technique out where all of us could get at it we could all have quite a party with it if that was the only point. But as long as you're the filter for mistakes, mine are the only ones we're going to see here.
