"'US strike' hits Pakistan village." About 3 times a week now we read of US strikes inside Pakistan. Usually it's claimed that the US had "intelligence" which said that up to 90 badguys would be in a certain place at a certain time and they go in and blow up a village. Or half a village. The "collateral" damage is usually horrific. How do they get "intelligence" accurate enough to waste innocent lives? I'm thinking that the benchmark is "intelligence" regarding the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. The US has offered $25 million for that information, and there have been NO takers. No one's talking. So who is talking to the US, and what kind of information are they getting? No one without a personal grudge seems to be talking, and using the US military for their own inter-tribal gain. There doesn't seem to be information about insurgents, or someone would have claimed the $25 million. As far as the Taliban and other badguys, US info seems to be by guess from the air. The folks flying the Predators seem to be playing cowboy and Indian, conquistador and Mexican, fire at will and "investigate" later. Any gathering seems to be suspect and targeted. In Vietnam any dead Vietnamese was a communist by definition, and there was a horrific loss of innocent civilian life. I'm despairing of any of the lessons of Vietnam having been learned. Arf
