I believe I got to Virginia City about 10:45 AM, and it was extremely windy then, and getting worse. I noticed it, and I wasn't aware of the Fossett situation.

It could well have been calm earlier, in fact I'm sure it was. Fossett was 63 years old, a superb pilot and an older pilot. He didn't get that experience and age being stupid.
