The contrast just seems so extreme between the two images, plus
assuming the crater had not changed that much in 35 years, I was
surprised at how faint Caloris Basin looked in the MESSENGEr images.
Something tells me if Mariner 10 had seen it at a different angle in
1974, we might not even know it existed, or at the least it would
not be so memorable.
