Ooh, a gotcha post, you betcha

I hadn't even heard of this one. Instant research reveals that it's yet another cassus belli resonating in the RightWing echo chamber, but not something that's much above the radar for normal people. Looks like yet another variation on the eternal complaint that voter registration drives are inherently biased towards Democrats.

Stephen Colbert has observed that "facts have a well known liberal bias", too.

To put it in the context of my post, though I think less of people who wimp out and evade the pain of being an informed voter by voting early, that's a matter of personal principle. I thoroughly enjoy participating in the civic ceremony of showing up at a polling place on election day, and I think that it builds a sense of belonging and responsibility.

But I don't think that voter registration drives are a bad thing, even if they try to game the system by urging early voting. The email I got from the McCain campaign urging an early vote was tacky, but not a crime; same goes for the more recent one from the Obama campaign.

The jury's still out on ACORN. It's no suprise that Republicans have filed lawsuits to try to impede their work, since as noted Republicans are hostile in general to voter registration. It needs to be put into the larger context of Republicans trying to suppress voter turnout in a lot of ways, like improperly purging Democratic voters from the rolls.

You're making a big deal of ACORN being "under investigation", but we both know that the story will fade away immediately after the election. There's no there there.
