Money becomes about as valuable as toilet paper - which is what it ends up being mostly good for.

Certain people and groups start trying to lift up their nations again, while simultaneously promoting themselves into power and putting down various "enemies" with an appeal to the emotions rather than the intellect.

Before you know it, new dictatorships have risen - but this time, those in power have the means and the weapons to utterly destroy their enemies.

Please don't tell me history doesn't repeat itself, because it does all the time, in large part because people don't study history (it's all old and boring and remote and uncool) and those in power know enough to take advantage of that.
