GM:Truly bad management

GM is actually composed of separate companies which compete against each other.

While this might have made sense it the 1950's, GM continued with this strucutre even as it lost market share to foreign competition.

GM's distribution system reflects its position in the 1950's as well.

The company is run by bean counters instead of by automotive engineers.

GM is burdened with retirees from the 1950's, when it had market share, and faces health costs that its competitors have subsidized by their governments, or by more efficient health care delivery.

Further, GM faces taxes, while many of its competitors come from VAT countries, and none of those VAT are passed through to the cars they export to the US.

GM is burdened with a large overhead of non-productive managers, top management whose salaries are outrageous, and has managed to screw up its relationship with it unions.

Anybody else have anything to add to this list?

Where is another Lee Iacoca when you really need him?

What bugs me is Ford, where they at least tried to do the right things.

well, as you sew, so shall ye reap
