It's amazing how many "quotes" widely used on the internet aren't real. Some fakes have thousands of links, including many to official "quote collection" sites. One good place for tracking down the truth is finding university sites and others that have extensive digital archives of people's writings, but it's not conclusive unless their collections are complete.
