Just this morning, I almost got flattened by a deer stampede. I was working down by the ditch, which at this time or year is dry, so all the local critters use it as a trail. I heard a sound and the herd appeared coming down the ditch in high gear. I just had time to duck to the leeward side of a fence for shelter as a dozen terrified dear bounced past.
Perhaps this not the best time to capture a deer. It is rutting season and they tend to go a touch insane as Halloween approaches.
The foxes are growing up nicely. I saw the black one the other day who has developed a salt-n-pepper look - very striking. The red one with the white tip tail was by the other dusk. She's the one I met when she was young, and she still remembers me enough to not be afraid. She'll saunter close to me, sniff, and move on without panic.
Mountain Lion in town today, I expect more bears soon as the apples and berries are ripe for the picking.
Coons are a constant, but there are only two or three of them this year.
The cat wants to spend more time inside even though Indian Summer is in full force. Maybe he smells the big cat out there, or he is tired of the daily confrentaions with the neighbor's cat.
