Take a look at Raoul's slide of reasons for going to the Moon.

Neither crater dating nor CAPS was included.
And these are the two reasons for retunring to the Moon.
The others are just rationalizations.
This is quite deliberate on NASA's part.

I see you shut down manned spaceflight on your own forum, Doug.
That's too bad.
