Would it not have been cheaper just to build and place in orbit a succesor for the telescope?
Of course, I want a telescope designed for detecting NEOs placed in orbit instead,
and I expect the next NASA Adminstrator to pick up its share of Pan Starrs and the LSST,
like the Congress told Griffin to do.
