I still think there's a 50 - 50 chance McCain could be the next president. A plausible scenario, at least it seems plausible to me, would be for McCain to challenge the voter registration process in many states. He would file suit in Federal Court, and sympathetic judges would order the certifications withheld until all voters can be verified.
At some point the Supreme Court would claim that there is a sense of urgency about the situation, there is a war on terror, etc., and totally disqualify the votes in states which could affected by the challenge process. The majority of the electoral vote in the remaining states would determine the next President.
And those remaining states would be cherry-picked to support McCain.
Stranger things have happened. In 2000 the Supreme Court of a "democracy" ruled against counting ballots, waited until spurious counts put Bush ahead and then froze the election. The case this possible 2008 scenario is impossible can't be made.

How McCain could win.
