Every dang election now seems preceded by hordes who swear they'll move to another country or worse if their guy loses. Of course, it's easier for liberals to think this way: the world is full of comfy left-leaning bedroom nations to pick from. Where does a conservative or libertarian find a freer country than this one?
Going "John Galt?" In the original sense of the novel, that wasn't people moving to "Galt's Gulch," it was people who simply stopped producing as much as they were able. Famous industrialists ended up doing simple labor, or being fry cooks in obscure towns.
I doubt a lot of people would do this. What I do see happening if the government decides that they haven't squeezed the prosperous enough is things just...not expanding any more. I'm already hearing about small and medium businesses that are pulling in their horns in preparation for a more hostile environment. Not hiring, not planning on expansions.
There will be no political penalty for this. Contractions are easy to spot. Nobody sees growth that never happens.
