Off Topic » in reply to Affleck does Olbermann

Olbermann is like chocolate cake.

I know hes devoid of substance, not particularly good to take in large quantities, best only enjoyed rarely, vile if I have too much, upsets my stomach, I like only because it appeals to instincts which are not very good for me....

But very fun and enjoyable when taken in moderation.

Olbermann is a bright guy, and he does his outrage very well- I admire him on that level. And like a town musician, hes very good at picking up on the feelings and frustrations of his audience and shaping his delivery to be perfectly in tune. All these things are remarkable talents. And unlike his right-wing equivalents, he does not as much pander to a low-brow xenophobic hatred, but rather a higher-brow sense of outrage... But its still pandering.

It does not bother me that I agree with much of what he says- Olbermann is not even right or wrong, hes flashily packaged anger. He makes good 'background music', in the same sense as the rough soundtracks to action movies make good ass-kicking background music, or in the same sense that montonous drone fits interminable elevator rides.

No, I don't have admiration for Olbermann and his content is irrelevant to my life and philosophy. But he's fun in moderation, and a talented artist at what he does.
