If I remember right from some years back, and with the storke that sometimes doesn't happen, the radiation problem turned out to be a show stopper for manned Mars flight: that bad, and the magnetic shielding was starting to be examined. It appears to work, so that's one problem down.
But once again, manned Mars flight has a low priority.
