Remember the TV series Murphy Brown? When Bush I was in power,
they rode high on humor, etc.
But shortly after Bush left in 1993, the series lost its bite, ratings
dropped, and MB soon left the airwaves.
Now it can be claimed that MB just ran out of steam after being on
the air for a number of years, but I do recall that when Bush left, it
just wasn't as interesting any more.
This is the same reason political cartoonists have been "joking" about
crying over the departure of Bush and McCain. I remember similar
jokes when Reagan's controversial Secretary of the Interior James
Watt resigned in 1983.
While I am sure there will be plenty of politicians to cause all kinds of
problems for ages to come, it will be interesting to see what happens
to Air America and The Daily Show. Ironically, I think The Colbert
Report will do just fine with its faux conservative talk show format.
