The media and the Democrats hauled out everything they had in the way of opposition research, rumors, lies, and ferocious attacks to tear her to bits.
That's not what you do to someone when it's just about contempt, or condescension.
One major objective of the Democratic Party is to wipe every last wet bit of Reaganism out of the American political system.
They were doing a pretty good job of it, too, with the Republicans nominating the closest thing to a Democrat the party had. The Democrats were sitting back, smiling, waiting for him to pick Lieberman and finish the job of self-destruction.
Then suddenly, the unthreatening lukewarm McCain pulled the governor of Alaska out of his hat.
Kaboom.
If McCain had picked Gingrich, or Jindal, you would have seen exactly the same response, and for exactly the same reason.
In fact, because Gingrich IS smarter than Palin (and probably smarter than Obama or McCain), the attacks would have been twice as bad. Do you understand why?
