What's truly remarkable about Obama's election
is that he won by 8.5 million votes despite the undeniable truth that millions of white Americans are still uncomfortable, to various degrees, with the jarring cultural paradigm shift implied by the reality of a black man as President of the United States. One can only hope that with time, and also with a hugely favorable comparison to the disasterous record of his predecessor George Bush, these white folks will "get used to it" or "get over it".
