The Republican Party has a wealthy base with issue specific groups allied to that base. The NRA and Christian extremists are two of those. The GOP will not go away, hasn't been beaten. Having looted the country to the point of depression, they are having to lay back a while to let the Ds create more wealth.
The rest of those myths just show that McCain-Palin got clobbered by a majority of the electorate, not a few concentrated special interests. A broad coalition which gave Obama a real mandate.
One sad by-product is the energization of those who do not respect freedom of religion and want to establish their own theocracy. I think they would do better concentrating upon living up to the Word of Christ themselves. Then if that proved to be a superior way of life, bringing comfort and effectiveness into their own lives, the world would beat a path to their door. As it is they're not a great advertisement for the faith.

The destruction of the Republican Party is certainly a myth.
