On most jobs I've had there have been items to finish before moving on to the next job. Projects to wind up, reports to write, that sort of thing. It was a matter of pride to leave as clean a desk as possible and as well-trained a successor as time allowed.
And what the US is being left by the present administration is astounding. Two wars each taking longer than WWII and unfinished. Undone. All over but the leaving, with the inevitable consequences. Guantanamo, which has a logical conclusion. Now the reason for leaving those is understandable, so Bush's successor can be blamed for the loss. The same with Guantanamo. Oh, yes. Osama bin Laden is still out there. Looks as if he can run AND hide, and as if "Bring 'em back dead or alive" Bush will have to go find him alone.
The financial disaster. Irresponsible policies with unconscionable consequences, an avalanche which has just started and will wipe away the futures of millions of Americans.
And one can see it coming. Speeches from the few Conservatives left on the Senate floor decrying "surrender". More Conservatives calling for smaller government, fiscal responsibility, reduction of the debt. Blaming social programs and the few Union workers left for the crunch.
On the lighter side. It's not going to matter if the capital gains tax is raised, lowered or eliminated. Capital gains have been eliminated.
Arf
I would think. (And one issue has been resolved.)
