Seriously, I lived for five years in Pittsburgh with its large Polish community (my wife has Polish roots) and the ubiquity of polkas and accordions was quite remarkable. It was somehow unnerving to go to a wedding and find these hippy dippy long haired freaks doing a very creditable polka on the dance floor, and one band I recall looked and dressed like a death metal outfit, but were blasting out "In heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here." And all the old timers were polka-ing away.
One incident that really sticks in my mind, one night while jogging I ran past a house and through the picture window I could see a long haired kid inside sitting on a stool in an otherwise empty room, sheet music on a stand in front of him, intently practicing his polkas on his accordion.
