Time "(HOUSTON) — After several days without luck, astronauts finally ran a successful test on equipment that turns urine into drinking water — a necessity for supporting the international space station's crew, which will soon double."
Frankly, I thought they were doing this already.
I know the only reason one can't drink urine from healthy people is the salinity - it's about 3% salt as opposed to the 1% of human blood. Diluted it would be just fine, and a reasonable way to stretch water supplies under the appropriate circumstances.
But to drink it as the norm, I'm afraid, would take me a little bit of getting used to. The first time or two. I might wait until I got thirsty, and it might help if everyone else were doing it too. Flavored might help.
I'm sure that after a day there would be no thought about it. And I have to admit it would be on my mind the first little while.
