Considering that the Federal government has not been able to be trusted with any amount of domestic power this seems like a bad idea.

Hoover used the FBI for his personal vendettas, Johnson would have, Nixon's abuse of power is legendary, and had Bush had this force available God knows what the US would look like. Bush's abuses continue, and involve subverting virtually every element of government without regard for law.

If the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, this is one of the threats to the country against which everyone would need to protest. It's not for the benefit of citizens.

Or to deter "terrorists".

This will be a real test for Obama. If he doesn't resist this it will be time to resist him.
