Space/Science » in reply to New Administration Asks Cogent Questions About ARES

Is the Alternative any better?

Would the other architecture be cheaper launching the CEV to the ISS and similar targets?

One advantage of the other system is that the central core has to be developed to get a working CEV orbital system, and so isn't as liable to be put on the indefinite back-burner like the Ares V could well be. The commonality between orbiter and Moon-launcher is a big plus IMHO.
