Geek Speak

The innate perversity of inanimate objects. A reasoned treatise.

But not very well reasoned. I just tried to pick up my headphones. I laid them down this morning along with several other pair I have. I do not have bluetooth headphones as I do not have a bluetooth mp3 player, ALTHOUGH I ORDERED EACH OF THOSE ITEMS FROM AMAZON JUST BEFORE STARTING THIS.

To my knowledge I did not touch anything around those goddamned 'phones all day. Walked past them several times. And when I went to pick them up, by golly the cords were as tangled as if they had been a cluster of snakes in some weird mating ritual. They made elegant knots, simple knots and knots which would try the patience of a fly fisherman.

That came after I sorted a variety of line I had in the van. Just sitting there in a box waiting to be taken out to the farm to be used to pull a plastic pipe up a hill. Scruffy line, in sections, much of it Spectra. Been sitting in the box for a few days. The shit was as tangled as a Hindu Swami's beard.

I'm not talking vines, morning glory or somesuch looking to take over the world as it does. I'm talking dead rubber and copper.

I am not a believer in the alien creation of crop circles, or alien UFO's, or alien anything. I am becoming a firm believer in a native motor ability in items presumed to be dead. Not even deceased, just dead. Forever dead.

Insidious damned stuff. Takes a perfectly reasonable person and turns him into a homicidal maniac in 30 or 35 minutes. Someone like me it takes maybe 5 or 6 minutes. I think as a race we need to be very, very careful. I'm going to consider sleeping with one of those whiplash collars just to be safe. I think it could sneak over and strangle someone and would do so just for the hell of it.

OK. It's time to start nagging Amazon to get my stuff shipped. It's been 45 minutes or so and I know the customer service folks could be wrapping and writing addresses. After all, they have headphones and microphones, don't need their hands. And India isn't all that far from China, from whence my Bluetooth stuff is coming, I'm sure.

Seriously, I'd swear the stuff has a life of it's own. If I were a Congersman I'd pass a law that there be no wires used on any critical space projects or vehicles. I'll bet that if one could really get to the root of all those accidents there were two wires close to each other. Had a little slack in 'em. And when it got dark they started slithering around here and there, winding and unwinding and rewinding, and finally broke. That makes a lot more sense than the alleged "forgot to convert English into metric" bullshit. No one is dumb enough to believe that.
