You're right, most of Trump's followers are doing fine economically, but they are all painfully (and suddenly!) aware how tenuous the basis of that prosperity actually is, and how little what they do has anything to do with it. Its finally starting to dawn on them that no amount of hard work or loyalty to the system can guarantee their continued prosperity. I also think you have over-estimated the role "naked bigotry and racism" is playing. The average STrumpette is not really afraid of black folks, or Latins or even Muslims...provided they have money and present no economic competition--or cultural threat, to them.

As Dick Gregory once put it, when discussing a similar comparison, "In the South they don't care how close you get, as long as you don't get too big. In the North, its just the opposite."
