They're up for grabs. Unless soon-to-be President Obama decides to keep them flying, in which case, all deals are off.
Personally, I think it would be really neat to display one at Union Station in KC. It's a huge place and would meet the requirement for being indoors. One may go to the Smithsonian.
Only will cost around $42,000,000 to pay all the expenses of transport, getting the shuttle ready, etc. We could take up a collection. Personally, if I had the millions to burn, I'd donate the money to obtain one for display. So everyone could see and maybe touch one of the beautiful ships that has made the journey where no man (or woman) had gone before. Perhaps as a memorial to all those who have gone there and to those who didn't come back. I think of how it could excite the youngsters of the generation now growing up to see and touch, maybe even go inside a shuttle.
Anyone got 42 million?
Forgive me for getting a little mushy but I think this is an extraordinary thing and I hope in this horrid economy that they can find a place for at least two of them. To just remove their engines and display those? That would be so very sad, like dismembering a piece of history.
Want a Space Shuttle?
