Its not just my state, its my people.

GOP propaganda, in the Spanish language media, has repeatedly and consistently painted Biden and the Democratic Party as "Communist".

Not Democrat, not Liberal, not leftist, not Socialist, but Communist. Its been constant, shameless and ruthless and has not been reported widely in the English language press. I've heard no Anglo journalists commenting on this underground campaign, but if you speak the language and if you watch their media and talk to the Latins here there is no question it is going on, targeted and coordinated right from the top. I've been watching a classic McCarthyite smear campaign unfold here.

S. Florida is full of Latins who are refugees from Communist dictatorships in Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia and Nicaragua. They have very good reasons for despising Communism, reasons I totally support and fully agree with. But as fascists always do, the Republicans have painted anyone who objects to their agenda as a Communist, and they have exploited and manipulated the genuine anguish and legitimate grievances of these exiles for their own purposes. The slander has been perpetrated against Democratic Party Latin candidates in local elections too, not just Anglos in the national races. The electoral balance in Florida is very close, this propaganda won it for the GOP.

I can tell, by subtle cultural cues, that this campaign has been directed at the middle and working class Latins here who are either exiles fleeing Communist regimes in South and Central America, or their descendants and families. The large numbers of Hispanic farm workers and undocumented immigrants is, of course, not being targeted. In spite of what the Trumpers tell us, these people don't vote. I am told that in the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, where the majority of Latins are recent arrivals from Puerto Rico (victims of Trump hurricane policies for the island) is not being being targeted with this propaganda.

Not only are the Republicans conducting a vicious and cynical political campaign aimed at Hispanics in South Florida, it has clearly been devised and implemented by individuals very familiar with local culture, conditions and audiences. These are, no doubt, reactionary elements in the Cuban exile community. I guess you don't have to be Anglo to be Fascist.

I can't begin to tell you how furious I am.
