I'm going to bookmark the latest post in CE that deals with Rush Limbaugh's latest racist episode so that in the future, when someone like Tom professes to rationally taking on each issue and not just blindly standing up for members of his party based on political power, we can hold up this example where he truly revealed the dark truth.
I've often said on here that the hard-core neo-con Republicans on this board (and I'm not talking about the ideological conservatives that can see nuance in issues) would be the types, had they lived in Germany during the rise of Nazism, that would have gone along with the fascist buildup despite the evidence of overreach, bigotry, and cruelty. They would have done so because the power and profit was intoxicating. They also would have rationalized the intolerance because they themselves are deeply afraid of anyone that doesn't share their physical and cultural traits. They would have been the ones turning in their neighbors that questioned the growing authority or didn't fit the master race profile. I'm sure many of those folks that went along with it all had what they believed noble intentions. They probably didn't imagine the eventual concentration camps and the firing squads their neighbors would face. Now where their line would have been is debatable though. My guess is their fear would have won out.
But it all started with guys like Rush Limbaugh. Hitler and his henchmen were brilliant enough to understand that controlling the media narrative was a huge part of the takeover. The rhetoric from the onset built on an us versus them message, a dehumanizing of groups of people that could be saddled with the responsibility for all the societal woes of the time. Hitler was also smart enough to pin his party with the moral high ground. They would be the serious ones, the disciplined, the pious. No room for liberal sexual ideals, non-Christian philosophies, compromise. Tough and militant talk would abound. Their side was stronger, more virile. Any human that didn't fit the master race mold was mocked, turned into stereotypes. They were lazy, non-productive, feeding off the trough fed by the true followers. It's Limbaugh's message exactly. He doesn't even try to hide it.
Yet, here's Tom defending his latest attempt at "humor", dismissing it as mere parody, laughing along with the hard-core racists, somehow blind to the fact that you become the people you support or don't question. You turn into the murderer the lynch mob hangs even though you just jumped into the back of the crowd as it surged past your peaceful home. Hell, you're not up front tying the noose to the tree so you're not guilty but damn it, the guy must have had it coming. All these people can't be wrong. They look just like you and you know you've seen most of them in church last Sunday. God will sort it all out anyway.
Our country didn't turn into Nazi Germany during our own neo-con buildup but it's not because we were any smarter or more moral than the average Pottsdam citizen in 1934. In spite of our near depression right now, most of us live in relative prosperity compared to that time. The perfect storm that existed then fed right into the fascist takeover and the rationalization of the horrific fall into the blackness that can exist in all humans.
Tom, this one was obvious. Limbaugh went so far over the line there was not a shred of rationalization left. For you to attempt to find any at all gave us all that final piece of the puzzle into this intricate portrait you attempt to paint of yourself on here. You, Rush, Lee, Ann Coulter, Karl Rove, etc. are truly the master race. Now go find yourself a planet where you all can propagate together and leave us the fuck alone.
