While not a perfect film, ST:TMP reached pretty far in terms of ideas and character
development, moreso than the all the ST films that followed, as they decided to
aim at the LCD fan base. Not that they weren't enjoyable, but ST:TMP was 2001
in comparison to the rest of them. Too bad the fans couldn't appreciate what they
had been given (a film closest in spirit to the original ST concept).
Oh yeah - and the opening with three Klingon warships and that really great music
was very cool.
And this film is now 30 years old. Oy.
