Revisiting Star Trek
I love Star Trek but I have no problem with recreating or fleshing out characters I grew to love. They have always been 3-dimensional in my mind anyway so this just adds more depth.
My favorite fan-story was one where Kirk saw and bought this Samurai suit and was plastered. If I remember right, he ended up in the hoosegal and had to get bailed out. It was a hoot!
