Space/Science » in reply to Mauna Loa CO2 record posts smallest yearly gain in its history - maybe

A theory perhaps

Just maybe it's because the record world-wide gas prices and economic downturn over much of the last year reduced driving/flying/manufacturing to the point where it had an impact.

It's funny but recently they installed speed cameras throughout our grid of freeways in the Phoenix valley and nailed tens of thousands of drivers immediately. As soon as they could, they started touting the reduction in accident fatalities from previous years. Somehow though they neglected to include in the formula the fact that there were billions less miles driven during the same period throughout the country because of the high gas prices. My guess is that, once you factor in the reduction of miles driven, there probably is no serious reduction in accident death and injury. It's greatly speculated that although reduced speed truly causes less injury, the number of rear end collisions as people overreact to the camera actually goes up. It's all about revenue.
