U.S. baby born with 24 digits
CBC News
Hospital officials in California are counting the praises of a baby boy born with 24 perfectly formed fingers and toes, six on each hand and foot.
Kevin McCormack, spokesman for St. Luke's hospital in the San Franciso area, confirmed the "extraordinary" child was born about three weeks ago at the hospital with a condition known as postaxial polydactylism.
It is not uncommon for infants to be born with extra fingers, but in Kamani Hubbard's case, all four extra digits contain a bone and full movement.
"They're all fully functional, which is quite rare," McCormack told CBCNews.ca on Thursday.
The baby's father, a postal worker, told local television stations that he was the first to notice his son's special attributes, while adding the genetic trait runs in his family.
"Some family members have had six fingers, not completely developed," Kris Hubbard, 34, told KTVU. "But not the toes."
Did that alien autopsy picture show 6 fingers on each hand?
