An astronuat doing something more dangerous than the Space Shuttle.
Canadian astronaut, Bjarni Tryggvason, has built
an authentic replica of Canada's first powered aircraft,
the Silver Dart.
The actual Silver Dart flew off a frozen lake in Nova Scotia
100 years ago [February,23,1909].
Aeronautic studies have lately shown how dangerous
and inherently unstable in flight the Silver Dart was.
Mr. McCurdy seriously risked his life flying that original aircraft 100 years ago.
But that didn't stop Bjarni and his team from building and from him test-flying
a faithful replica the other day.
Bjarni flew the replica upto an altitude of a few feet....But even such low altitudes
were and are still extremely hazardous, especially since the aircraft has a pusher-prop
behind the pilot's seat.
