Mileage standards set themselves when gas prices go up. You say yourself that the buyers would prefer better gas mileage. So why let idiots set arbitary numbers?

There is no "fossil fuel paradigm." There's an entire national economy running on coal and oil, and imbeciles who wouldn't know what a spark plug was if you shoved it up their nose are killing the energy infrastructure with nothing viable yet to take its place.

Go ahead. Tax carbon. Crush the coal industry. Shut down oil shale, drilling, and dump more restrictions on car manufacturers. Keep subsidizing technologies and transportation methods that won't be profitable for years. Kill profitable industries, push the rest overseas, and create a thousand new Amtraks.
