Greg was going to be used as a pawn for the Democrats and he finally realized it. With the Democrats wanting to move the Census Bureau from the non-political Commerce Department where it should be, to the political White House which would be overseen by Emanuel it became clear Greg would be there cover guy.

With a Republican appointed Commerce person it would be harder for anybody to claim foul for this manipulating move of the Census Bureau to White House control. Especially when Obama’s administration starts fooling with the numbers, changing district lines and handing out money to political allies.

To allay concerns over Gregg, the White House initially indicated that it might take greater control over the Census Bureau. But amid GOP criticism it has since clarified that the White House will "work closely with the census director," and that the Census Bureau would not be removed from the Commerce Department.

Isn’t it funny how they couldn’t figure that out in the first place, and on there own?
