Where the "stimulus" money's going

A nice visual aid here. (Linked from this article) Print it out and pin it up.

Note first the touted "tax cuts," which a few liberals have actually complained about being too high.

Most of them are the payroll deductions spread out over the year, giving workers $14 extra dollars a week. Economic impact: nil.

Another part neutralizes the AMT--for one more year. The AMT was an abomination the second some idiot Democrat invented it. Did you know it was originally targeted at exactly 155 wealthy people who apparently had more money than the liberals decided they deserved? Now every married taxpayer with incomes between $100,000 and $500,000 falls under the threat. But is it abolished permanently? No. The opportunity to loot the rich is just too damn good.

The only "business" tax cut that might actually create new hiring is that little $5.1 billion blue square. See it? Down there at the bottom of the page.

$140 billion is to states and localities who can't handle their own finances and would rather loot the Federal Treasury than do something politically unpopular. I don't know what they've got in mind for next year's problems.

The spending goes to places the Democrats think wealth should go, or where political pull hauls it, not where the market thinks it should go. Some of these have been on the Democratic wish list for years. High speed rail??

About $30 billion of the spending goes to high-tech places that might actually create new long-term jobs instead of temporary construction work. Another $30 billion in aid is ending up with college students, which might pay off in the long run. Of course, the more money the government pumps into colleges, the higher education "costs" will rise to meet it. Subsidized activities always increase in price.
