WSJ as cited on Drudge - "Obama's Rhetoric Is the Real 'Catastrophe' "

"President Barack Obama has turned fearmongering into an art form. He has repeatedly raised the specter of another Great Depression. First, he did so to win votes in the November election. He has done so again recently to sway congressional votes for his stimulus package.

"In his remarks, every gloomy statistic on the economy becomes a harbinger of doom. As he tells it, today's economy is the worst since the Great Depression. Without his Recovery and Reinvestment Act, he says, the economy will fall back into that abyss and may never recover."

That is an interesting concept. A couple of things come to mind. GWB, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice talking about mushroom clouds, ships with cropdusters, and knowing where WMDs were, 45 minutes away from tactical deployment. Bernanke, Bush, Cheney talking about how great the economy is, how robust and how far away from recession.

The first one was fear-mongering at it's worst. Those items were known to be or should have been known to be untrue, but used to scare the public.

The second one is interesting, too. That was untrue, and known to be untrue by those who could comprehend and yet they continued to lie to try to avoid responsibility for what they had done to the economy.

And along comes Barack. Is honest about the situation, the prospects. And the Wall Street Journal can't handle it. Would prefer someone who lied.

That pretty well says it about Conservatives, I'm afraid.
