The liberals pushed for universal qualification for sub-prime mortgages, in particular Senator Dodd. If they had not started the idiotic idea that EVERYBODY is entitled to a home loan, regardless of credit rating, this would not have happened.

Of course, the Conservative businesscrooks (my non-sexist term) took advantage of this by issuing loans to deadbeats and promptly selling them to the secondary market. The half-wits who run the secondary market failed to perform due diligence, but thought that, if a bank issued the mortgage, it must be solid.
