Actually, I assume you mean leaving the world for better places after you're dead. You have to know that troubles me Jody and not just the thought of losing people like you to death but that rational and compassionate people actually believe that death will bring them more peace and sanity than they have here in the present life.

The whole logic of it simply doesn't make sense. Even if one believes in an afterlife and a heaven and/or hell, the various religious teachings over the time of man have certainly varied sharply on just what that experience would be like. If it happens, it could be floating around playing your harp above the clouds or some extremely judgmental place where tiny slip-ups can get you thrown into a lake of fire. It could be you coming back as a cockroach in some sewer. It could be you're in charge of some planet of your own. Oh wait, only if you're male in that religion. You could end up one of the 72 virgins for some blown up terrorist thug.

Bottom line though is, if there's an afterlife, it's designed by the same bizarre and hardly loving and compassionate diety who brought and enabled horrific suffering to not only his/her creations but his own son as well. The injustice and stupidity shown in the article are being done by the puppets of this supreme master and there's no guarantee the same idiocy won't inhabit the afterlife.

So you have every right to the outrage. It should cause everyone of us to fight to educate and change these idiots. Just please don't cop out and look for the pot at the end of the rainbow and ignore the beauty and challenges of the walk you have to take to try to find it.
