So, anybody see The Watchmen?

Much better than I feared due do to many reviews both from so-called
expert film reviewers and general comments from the Joe Sixpack crowd
on the Internet.

The ironic humor and dark satire of the film was clearly lost on at least
the bunch of comments I read. I even think there was some confusion
over the fact that Watchmen took place in an alternate universe/Earth.

**** SPOILER WARNING ****

While they did follow the graphic novel to an amazing degree both in
terms of dialogue and imagery, I actually prefer the film's version of the
main detail in Ozymandias' plot to make the world behave or else. If
they had gone with the GN version, it would have added an extra layer
of complexity and explanation that I don't think the uninitiated
audience could handle and probably would have gone overboard for
them in terms of the fine line between the sublime and the ridiculous.

All in all, a fine effort that I feel will not be fully appreciated until later,
just as Blade Runner was not fully appreciated by the general public
when it came on the scene in 1982, or 2001 in 1968 to a lesser degree.

While I am here, I am surprised that no one commented on the major
development in Battlestar Galactica, namely that they got to Earth
only to find it destroyed by the same problem the Colonies had.

How many other series would have had the scrotes to take the
ultimate goal of their overall plot and utterly trash it right near the
end of the series? Certainly not the original version of BSG, which
gave us the "lovely" Galactica 1980 as their answer.

Nice to see science fiction finally growing up on the big and little
screens on a consistent basis.
