Sheet materials, for instance, aren't made in those thicknesses and metallurgies any more. Complex machines require very specific manufacturing chains and if you stop buying the materials, those factories go over to some other product. Then the machines to make the machines necome obsolete and then you have to re-invent the proverbial wheel...
